Boyd is from Hawaii and has a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Hawaii.  He studied film and theatre at California State University Long Beach.

Boyd is an experienced writer, director, cameraman, and editor for film and video. Among his earlier works are the narrative film Lucky Man and the documentary With Fairest Flowers about the California Repertory (CalRep)Theatre Company's first trip to China. He was also the videographer for the American premiere of CalReps' production of Antonin Masa's play Night Rehearsal.

Boyd was 2nd unit director, camera, and editor on Yiqing Zhao's Iodine Deficiency in China and producer, editor, and additional photography on Dr. Song: Medicine Woman of Eastern Tibet. In addition to his narrative and documentary work, Boyd has produced corporate videos, including Spirit of Amgen and Postcards to Dave, as well as the PSA Don't Play with Your Life. Among his most recent work is the powerful documentary A George Bush Christmas. He is currently post-production on the feature length-documentary Hanging With The Buddha, and in-production on the feature-length documentary Ed Wood's War, serving as cinematographer and editor.

Boyd has written several feature-length screenplays, including Wild Swan, a semi-finalist in the 1996 Nicholl’s Fellowship in Screenwriting competition. Boyd resides in Boulder, Colorado and is a US Citizen with a current passport.
